Verify a successful git push

  • git remote -v show origin
    • push url: this is the directory you used in the git clone command that created the current repo
    • HEAD branch: the current HEAD branch on the remote repo. If you were to change the branch in your direcotry, this would change
    • Remote branches: list of all remote branches
    • local branches: a list of local branches and what they merge to remotely
      • master merges with remote master
      • If you had checked out multiple branches, you would see all of them here
    • If the last line of output shows up to date, then all of your local changes are in sync with the remote origin
    • If the last line of output says local out of date, this means your local repo is out of date because you haven't pulled in the new changes from the remote
